PUSHING UP DAISIES
This garden takes the form of a fallen tree and serves as a memorial to the trees that have died from climate change, drought and invasive species. It employs Hugelkultur, a form of permaculture, where logs, branches and leaves of fallen trees are placed in mounds and covered with soil to provide moisture and nutrients as they decompose, thereby nourishing a pollinator garden of native species that will propagate the next generation. Originally created for Public Address’s exhibition, DesEscondido: No Longer Hidden, at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido in collaboration with Nina Karavasiles. Located in front of the museum.
Interpretive panel showing the process of creating the garden and some of the native species that we initially planted.
