Walking with Joshua Trees

Give thanks to desert enchantments—tenacious Joshua trees, starry nights, and dry winds.  Given thanks to the miracle of spring, to brilliant desert flowers and the possibilities of renewal and regeneration. I have walked with Joshua trees every other year, beginning in 2017. For images from 2017 see Remember the Trees. All images below composed in 2023.

Written from Eureka Peak. Excerpt from essay “Walking with Joshua Trees” to be published in Desert Forest:

Look east. That the magnificent presences of Joshua trees dislodge the limitations of habitual thinking.

Look south. Celebrate the tiny details, the rich abundance of desert life forms.

Look west. Whether immersed in glittering city lights or starry desert nights, may the immeasurable expanse of the night sky inspire vast perspectives that insure the survival of the next seven generations of all living beings.

Look north. Reshaping human desire is saying yes to life.
